The funding is allocated across three key programs:
- Facilities Renewal Program: $196 million to assist colleges and universities in maintaining, repairing, and renewing existing facilities.
- College Equipment and Renewal Fund: $21.5 million to help colleges purchase and update instructional equipment and learning resources.
- Training Equipment and Renewal Fund: $10.5 million to provide universities with modern, state-of-the-art equipment and learning tools.
In addition to government contributions, postsecondary institutions are required to provide matching funds to maximize the impact of this investment. Eligible projects include major upgrades to building systems, such as heating, ventilation, and electrical systems. Institutions may also use the funding to acquire educational tools, including new computers, specialized software, and machinery for labs, shops, and classrooms.
This initiative underscores the province’s goal of fostering a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of modern employers. By upgrading facilities and tools, Ontario is ensuring its students receive a world-class education that prepares them for leadership roles in innovative industries.
