Ontario Honours Paramedics with Medal for Bravery at Royal Ontario Museum
TORONTO — The Ontario government has awarded the prestigious Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery to seven paramedics from across the province in recognition of their outstanding courage and selflessness in the line of duty.
The medals were presented in a ceremony today at the Royal Ontario Museum by The Honourable Michael Tulloch, in his role as Administrator of the Government of Ontario, alongside Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones.
The honoured paramedics were recognized for a wide range of life-saving actions, including:
-
Disarming a patient in crisis, preventing injury to themselves and fellow first responders.
-
Rappelling into a collapsed excavation pit to provide care to trapped construction workers.
-
Providing off-duty emergency care to a neighbour suffering from serious stab wounds.
-
Rendering aid at the scene of a head-on car collision while off-duty.
-
Pulling a victim from a burning vehicle to safety.
“Ontario is home to world-class paramedics who put their lives at risk every day in service of their communities,” said Minister Jones. “These brave heroes represent the very best of Ontario and I am deeply honoured to recognize this year’s recipients of the Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery.”
While the seven recipients were honoured for specific acts of bravery, the province emphasized that all paramedics play a vital role in keeping communities safe, often under high-stress and dangerous conditions. The annual award is the province’s highest honour for paramedics, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty.
