Ontario Government’s 2024 Fall Economic Statement Highlights Initiatives to Support Families, Healthcare, and Economy
Toronto – Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy unveiled Ontario’s 2024 Fall Economic Statement today, titled “Building Ontario for You.” The statement introduces a series of measures aimed at alleviating financial pressures on households, strengthening healthcare access, and supporting economic growth.
A notable aspect of this statement is the extension of Ontario’s gas tax cut, a measure that Ford asserts will ease transportation costs for residents across the province. “We’re committed to keeping costs down and helping families,” Ford stated, emphasizing that his administration is focused on “making life more affordable for all Ontarians.”
In addition to the gas tax cut, the statement outlines plans to address the shortage of family doctors in Ontario. The government intends to bolster medical education, training more family doctors and addressing the needs of underserved communities.

Bethlenfalvy also announced that the government is tripling access to fertility services for residents. The move aims to expand support for Ontarians facing high costs associated with fertility treatments, aligning with broader health-related initiatives.
Additionally, Ontario families are set to receive $200 taxpayer rebates, which Bethlenfalvy described as a means to help families “make ends meet” amid rising living expenses. While the rebate is intended to provide immediate relief, critics have raised concerns about whether such measures are sustainable or merely a short-term fix.
The Fall Economic Statement arrives as Ontario grapples with inflation and mounting costs of living, and it signals the government’s dual focus on immediate cost-of-living relief and long-term economic resilience.
