Ontario Government Invests in Supportive Housing in Peterborough
Peterborough ON – In a move aimed at addressing homelessness and supporting vulnerable populations, the Ontario government has announced a significant investment in supportive housing in Peterborough. The funding of $377,641 will facilitate the creation of two supportive housing units at The Mount, located at 1545 Monaghan Road.
The Mount, a former convent, has been transformed to accommodate three small-scale housing projects. With its structural beauty and accessibility features such as ramps, elevators, and wide hallways, The Mount provides an ideal setting for housing individuals experiencing homelessness.
Associate Minister of Housing, Rob Flack, emphasized the impact these homes will have on the lives of those in need, stating, “These homes will make a real difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness, and I’m proud that our government is supporting projects like these all across the province.”

Residents of The Mount will have access to vital community resources, including transportation, grocery stores, schools, and employment opportunities, in addition to on-site support programs. The project aligns with the province’s broader commitment to addressing homelessness, as evidenced by the Social Services Relief Fund, which has provided over $1.2 billion in support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Paul Calandra, reiterated the government’s dedication to increasing community, affordable, and supportive housing. “Our government’s policies have delivered historic results in getting more homes built faster and addressing homelessness,” he stated.
