Ontario Government Invests $700,000 in Training for Heat and Frost Insulating Trades

RICHMOND HILL — The Ontario government is set to invest nearly $700,000 in a project aimed at providing free training to over 200 journeypersons and apprentices in the heat and frost insulating trades. This initiative is designed to help participants secure in-demand jobs in well-paying sectors, addressing the needs of local employers.

David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, emphasized the importance of the training program. “This training will help participants upgrade their job skills and prepare for well-paying jobs in the skilled trades,” he stated. “For over 80 years, Local 95 of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers has been providing valuable education and skills training to its members, and we are proud to partner with them on this essential project.”

The program will equip learners to take the Red Seal certification exam through a newly developed online platform, making the training accessible to those who might otherwise be unable to participate. The Red Seal endorsement is a mark of high-level knowledge and skill, highly valued by employers, and significantly enhances job prospects in the skilled trades. The program, which includes individual mentorship, will run through March 2025.

Ontario’s Skills Development Fund (SDF) Training Stream is a broader initiative aiming to train nearly 600,000 jobseekers, equipping them with the skills needed for rewarding careers. This effort also focuses on removing barriers for new Canadians and tradespeople, ensuring more inclusive access to job opportunities.
