Ontario Government Invests $7.7 Million in Supportive Housing for Vulnerable Ontarians

TORONTO — In a significant step toward creating more inclusive communities, the Ontario government has announced a $7.7 million investment in the Frankfort Family Reena Residence. This innovative 20-storey housing project will provide a home for 168 individuals, including people with developmental and physical disabilities, as well as seniors.

The residence, which will feature 111 accessible residential units, is being developed by Reena, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with diverse needs. The funding, part of Ontario’s 2024 Fall Economic Statement, will also help establish on-site spaces for vital services such as employment programs, wellness initiatives, sports programs, and community meeting rooms.

“Reena is a key partner in helping us build a more inclusive, welcoming, and stronger province,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “That’s why we are pleased to invest in the new Frankfort Family Reena Residence to better match people with housing that meets their unique needs and empowers them to live independently, while thriving in their community.”

The Frankfort Family Reena Residence reflects Ontario’s commitment to investing in social infrastructure, ensuring that the province’s most vulnerable populations have access to the resources they need.

Reena’s emphasis on accessibility and community integration aims to create a safe and supportive environment where residents can live with dignity and independence. The project also aligns with broader efforts to address housing challenges and expand services for those who need them most.

With construction already underway, the residence is set to become a beacon of community-driven innovation, offering hope and stability to individuals and families in need.
