Ontario Government Focuses on Strengthening Trade Relations with Germany
Toronto, ON – Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Victor Fedeli, met with German Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser to discuss advancing trade partnerships between Ontario and Germany. The meeting, held following Ontario’s recent trade mission to Germany in October, underscores the province’s commitment to building a robust international trade network.
Fedeli shared on social media that the delegation’s trip to Germany last month emphasized opportunities for collaboration in key sectors, aiming to attract investment and bolster trade partnerships. “In 2023, two-way trade between Ontario and Germany exceeded $14 billion,” Fedeli highlighted, calling this milestone a testament to the deep-rooted economic ties between the two regions.

During the mission, Ontario officials explored investment opportunities, particularly in the automotive and green technology sectors, where both regions are looking to lead. Germany’s focus on renewable energy and Ontario’s strengths in automotive technology, especially in electric vehicle production, were key points of discussion. The trade mission aligns with Ontario’s broader goal of positioning itself as a leader in sustainable development and innovation.
The Ontario government has shown a consistent interest in strengthening ties with global partners to ensure a steady influx of foreign investment, creating more job opportunities and further diversifying the province’s economy. As Ontario and Germany continue to strengthen their partnership, future collaborations could further enrich both economies and set a precedent for Ontario’s international trade strategy.
Ontario’s next steps will likely involve follow-up discussions to solidify investment prospects and foster additional connections in high-growth sectors.
