Ontario Government Commits $95.5 Million to New Collingwood Hospital Project
COLLINGWOOD – The Ontario government is investing up to $95.5 million to build a new Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, a move aimed at improving access to high-quality healthcare for residents of Collingwood and South Georgian Bay.
The funding, announced on December 12, 2024, adds to the $15.5 million previously allocated for early planning of the redevelopment project. The new hospital will replace the current facility with a larger, state-of-the-art building designed to meet the needs of a growing community.
“Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s hospitals to ensure people of all ages can access the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This investment will provide better access to high-quality care in Collingwood and South Georgian Bay for generations to come.”

The modernized facility will feature 132 new beds, including 98 inpatient beds and 34 additional beds to accommodate future needs. Enhanced infection prevention measures, expanded intensive care, emergency, diagnostic imaging, and operating suites will also be part of the project, ensuring patients receive top-tier care in a safe environment.
Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe—Grey, emphasized the significance of the project. “This historic investment will transform health care for generations of families, from the birth of a child to palliative care and everything in between,” he said.
Detailed planning and design are underway, with a construction schedule to be determined once the project is tendered and awarded.
The initiative is part of Ontario’s broader healthcare strategy, Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, which aims to modernize hospitals and make healthcare services more accessible and efficient across the province.
The new hospital is set to serve as a cornerstone for healthcare in the region, promising better access to essential services and addressing the evolving needs of the South Georgian Bay community.
