Ontario Breaks Ground on Culturally Focused Long-Term Care Home in Scarborough
SCARBOROUGH — The Ontario government has initiated construction on a new 128-bed long-term care facility in Scarborough, designed to serve the Greek community. The Hellenic Home for the Aged aims to provide culturally appropriate care, including meals and services in residents’ preferred language.
The facility will feature five ‘resident home areas’ with dining and activity spaces, lounges, and advanced safety measures such as GPS-enabled nurse call systems and roam alert technology. Sustainability is a priority, with plans for energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and renewable energy sources.
In Scarborough, I broke ground on the Hellenic Home for the Aged, which will welcome 128 residents once complete. This will be the third LTC home in Ontario that caters to Greek seniors.

This project is part of Ontario’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province. The Hellenic Home is expected to welcome its first residents in summer 2027.
Local officials, including MPP Aris Babikian and MPP Effie J. Triantafilopoulos, have expressed support for the project, highlighting its importance in providing dignified care for seniors within their cultural context.
