Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre to Bring Modern Healthcare Facilities to the Region

Etobicoke, ON – Ontario has officially broken ground on the highly anticipated new hospital in Etobicoke, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre, marking a monumental step forward in the region’s healthcare infrastructure. The $1.3 billion project, awarded to EllisDon, is set to redefine healthcare delivery in Etobicoke and Peel Region, offering state-of-the-art facilities to meet the growing needs of the community.

Scheduled to open its doors in late 2029, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre represents Canada’s largest health infrastructure renewal project, spanning over 600,000 square feet. The modern nine-story patient tower will house more than 350 beds, featuring fully private rooms to ensure patient privacy and enhance infection prevention control.

Premier Doug Ford expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are thrilled to break ground on the new Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre, a critical step in making care more connected and convenient in Etobicoke and neighbouring communities.”

Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, echoed Premier Ford’s sentiments, highlighting the government’s dedication to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of Ontario’s growing communities. “The new and expanded Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre is just another example of how we are investing in the health care needs of Ontario’s growing communities to deliver the highest standard of care,” she remarked.

Trillium Health Partners (THP), one of the largest community hospital systems in Canada, will oversee the operations of the new facility. Karli Farrow, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners, emphasized the importance of the project in expanding healthcare services and reducing wait times. “This milestone brings us one step closer to more beds, shorter wait times, and greater specialization closer to home,” she stated.

With construction underway since February 2024, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre represents a significant investment in Ontario’s healthcare sector. The project aligns with the government’s broader strategy for healthcare improvement, which includes over $48 billion in investments in more than 50 health infrastructure projects over the next decade.
