Ontario Invests $6 Million in Indigenous Infrastructure Projects

New funding round under the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program supports Indigenous-led facilities and long-term economic growth.

Toronto — The Ontario government has announced a $6 million investment to support Indigenous community infrastructure through the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program (ICCGP). Applications are now open for the 2025 intake, aimed at advancing Indigenous-led development projects across the province.

The program funds construction and renovation of key facilities, including community centres, cultural spaces, and business hubs. Past projects have included a new recreation centre in Webequie First Nation, a community and business centre in Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation, and a multi-use facility in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug.

Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, Greg Rickford, said the investment reflects the province’s commitment to building lasting partnerships with Indigenous communities:

“Through the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program, we’re investing directly in Indigenous-led capital projects that create economic opportunities and jobs and reflect our commitment to partnerships that sustain long-term prosperity across the province.”

Strengthening Indigenous-led Development

First launched in 1989 and relaunched in 2016, the ICCGP is designed to address infrastructure gaps and enhance prosperity in Indigenous communities. In 2024-25, Ontario funded 48 projects through the ICCGP and the Indigenous Economic Development Fund (IEDF).

In addition to this year’s ICCGP investment, Ontario is also providing $3 million through the Capacity and Growth Fund to promote Indigenous economic development, food security, and wealth creation.

Application Details

Applications for ICCGP funding remain open until November 13, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. EST, and must be submitted through Transfer Payment Ontario. Applicants must be registered with the platform to apply.

For more information on eligibility and past projects, applicants can visit the Government of Ontario’s funding portal.
