Brockville Selected to Host 2027 Ontario 55+ Summer Games

Ontario 55+ Summer Games Brockville 2027 expected to boost tourism and local economy

BROCKVILLE — The City of Brockville has been selected to host the 2027 Ontario 55+ Summer Games, with the provincial government committing $325,000 to support the event and its delivery.

Announced April 24 by the Ministry of Sport, the Games are expected to bring more than 1,000 athletes and participants from across Ontario and generate an estimated $1.5 million in economic impact for the region.

“Our government is proud to support the 2027 Ontario 55+ Summer Games in Brockville,” said Sport Minister Neil Lumsden. “These Games reflect our commitment to strengthening communities through sport, while creating opportunities for people to participate, no matter their age.”

Major event for seniors’ sport and active living

Held every two years, the Ontario 55+ Summer Games are the province’s premier multi-sport event for older adults. The 2027 edition will feature up to 17 sports and activities, including pickleball, slo-pitch and tennis.

The Games are delivered in partnership with the Ontario Senior Games Association (OSGA) and aim to promote healthy, active living while fostering social connections among participants.

“Sport creates community while keeping Ontario’s seniors active and socially connected,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.

Economic boost and tourism opportunity

Local officials say hosting the Games presents a significant opportunity to showcase Brockville and attract visitors.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Brockville to welcome participants and visitors from across Ontario,” said Mayor Matt Wren. “Hosting the 2027 Ontario 55+ Summer Games will bring meaningful economic impact while showcasing our community as a vibrant and welcoming destination.”

Provincial officials noted that Games Ontario events play a key role in driving domestic tourism, building volunteer capacity and positioning communities to host future events.

Strengthening community through sport

The investment aligns with Ontario’s broader strategy to support sport and recreation infrastructure, including a $500 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund aimed at upgrading facilities across the province.

Brockville’s successful bid highlights the growing importance of sports tourism and community-based events in supporting regional economies.

“Bringing more than 1,000 participants to our community is an incredible opportunity to showcase everything our beautiful region has to offer,” said MPP Steve Clark.

With preparations now underway, Brockville is expected to host athletes, volunteers and spectators from across Ontario for a multi-day event focused on competition, connection and active living.
