Nobu Toronto Set to Make Canadian Debut in August 2024

TORONTO – Nobu Hospitality, the world-renowned hotel and restaurant group founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper, is poised to debut its highly anticipated Nobu Toronto location in early August 2024. The announcement comes as the group celebrates its 30th anniversary in the hospitality industry this September. The new establishment, situated at 25 Mercer Street, promises to deliver Nobu’s signature blend of New-Style Japanese cuisine, cutting-edge design, and an immersive dining experience.

A Taste of Nobu in Toronto’s Entertainment District

Strategically located just a block away from the TIFF Light Box in Toronto’s Entertainment District, Nobu Toronto’s two-level restaurant and bar will open its doors ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival. Designed by the acclaimed Toronto-based Studio Munge, the venue will feature a blend of Japanese-inspired aesthetics and Canadian craftsmanship. Spanning 10,000 square feet, the restaurant will offer a total of 278 seats, distributed across several distinct areas.

Key Features of Nobu Toronto

  • Ground Level Bar and Lounge: The entrance to Nobu Toronto greets guests with a grand yet intimate bar and lounge area, featuring 57 seats. The centerpiece of this space is a breathtaking 28-foot bronze chainmail chandelier, evoking the elegant drapery of a Japanese kimono.
  • Mezzanine Level Sake Bar and Outdoor Terrace: Upstairs, guests will find a 20-seat sake bar and an intimate terrace reminiscent of serene urban Japanese gardens. The mezzanine level design draws inspiration from the iconic Japanese artwork “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” creating a harmonious blue and white color palette.
  • Second Level Main Dining Room: The second level hosts the main dining room with 140 seats, including a private tasting room. The design features blonde elm timber beams and a suspended light and porcelain art installation by Canadian ceramic artist Andrea Braescu.
  • Sushi Bar: An 11-seat sushi bar offers guests the opportunity to engage directly with the sushi chefs and appreciate the culinary craftsmanship.
  • Private Dining Room: A discreet 20-seat private dining room, enclosed within bronze-tinted glass panels, provides a unique vantage point over the ground level bar.

Culinary Highlights

Nobu Toronto will offer a menu featuring Nobu’s world-famous dishes such as Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Rock Shrimp Tempura. Executive Chef Alex Tzatzos will incorporate local nods to Toronto’s multicultural food scene, ensuring a unique culinary experience.
