New Crime Drama UNDERBELLY Starring Stephen Amell, Hamza Haq, and Minnie Driver Coming to Crave
Toronto – Crave has announced the latest addition to its lineup of original programming, UNDERBELLY, a new six-episode crime drama set in Ontario’s Thousand Islands. The series stars Stephen Amell (ARROW) as Officer Henry Roland, Hamza Haq (TRANSPLANT) as Tommy, and Minnie Driver (THE SERPENT QUEEN) as May Ferguson, a matriarch entangled in an international drug ring. The show will follow the lives of these residents in a seemingly peaceful riverside town as they become caught up in a dark mystery.
“With exceptional creative vision from Graeme Stewart, Aaron Martin, and Robert Budreau, UNDERBELLY delivers a gripping narrative that we know will resonate deeply with all audiences,” said Justin Stockman, Vice President, Content Development and Programming at Bell Media.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Thousand Islands, where the St. Lawrence River serves as the border between Canada and the U.S., UNDERBELLY introduces audiences to Officer Henry Roland, who stumbles upon evidence linking his childhood best friend, Tommy Hawley, to missing illegal substances. As Henry tries to protect Tommy, he crosses paths with May Ferguson, the ruthless leader of a British crime family, also searching for the drugs. The show promises suspense, complex characters, and thrilling plot twists.
“With a remarkable cast including Stephen Amell, Minnie Driver, and Hamza Haq, and an intricate plot crafted by Graeme Stewart and Aaron Martin, UNDERBELLY has all the ingredients to captivate global audiences,” added Prentiss Fraser, President of Television Distribution at FIFTH SEASON, co-producers of the series.
Filming of UNDERBELLY is currently taking place in locations across Southern Ontario, including Grimsby, Brantford, Cobourg, Bowmanville, and will soon move to Toronto. Directed by Robert Budreau (Stockholm), the series is produced by Shaftesbury, in partnership with Crave, with FIFTH SEASON handling worldwide distribution rights, excluding Canada.
The show promises a rollercoaster of emotions, drawing viewers into the web of betrayal, mystery, and high-stakes drama as Henry confronts his friend’s dark past and the deadly consequences of their choices. UNDERBELLY is set to become a must-watch on Crave, adding to the platform’s ever-growing slate of Canadian originals.
