New Accessible Basketball Courts Open in Scarborough

Confederation Park’s upgraded courts are designed for children and players of all abilities, with support from Jumpstart and Canadian Tire Dealers.

TORONTO – The City of Toronto and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities unveiled Scarborough’s first fully inclusive basketball courts at Confederation Park, celebrating the opening with Mayor Olivia Chow, Jumpstart representatives, City staff and dozens of local children showcasing their basketball skills.

The three newly refurbished courts now feature wheelchair accessible seating, double-wide entryways, high-contrast court markings for players with visual impairments, accessible tables, shaded seating areas, and a fully accessible pathway.

Funded by an Inclusive Play Project grant from Jumpstart and a donation from Canadian Tire Dealers across the GTA, the project is part of Jumpstart’s 20th anniversary commitment to create inclusive play spaces for children of all abilities nationwide.

The City continues to expand inclusive and accessible recreational spaces, offering adaptive equipment in pools and rinks, sensory-friendly environments, and inclusive programs ranging from wheelchair basketball to adaptive skiing.

Mayor Olivia Chow said, “The new accessible basketball courts at Confederation Park reflect the City of Toronto’s commitment to equity and inclusion. Diversity is our strength and that needs to be fostered.”
