MLSE Foundation Upgrades Prince of Wales Rink as Toronto Maple Leafs Hold Annual Outdoor Practice

Toronto, ON – The Prince of Wales Rink in Etobicoke has received a significant upgrade thanks to Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) Foundation. The announcement was celebrated today during the Toronto Maple Leafs’ annual outdoor practice, which drew a large crowd, including Mayor Olivia Chow and Deputy Mayor Amber Morley (Etobicoke-Lakeshore).

This year’s outdoor practice marked the culmination of a three-day community event at Prince of Wales Park, featuring public skating sessions, Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) and National Hockey League (NHL) watch parties, and an alumni game with former Maple Leafs players.

The MLSE Foundation’s contributions have enabled much-needed refurbishments at the rink, including freshly painted interior spaces, the installation of new wall-mounted composite benches in the large changeroom, and the addition of plexiglass around the rink for enhanced safety.

Mayor Chow expressed her gratitude for the Foundation’s 20 years of contributions to the city’s recreational spaces. “Outdoor rinks provide a fantastic place for families and kids to skate and learn to play hockey. Go Leafs Go!” Chow said.

The Prince of Wales Rink upgrades are part of MLSE Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support Toronto’s recreational facilities. Past projects include the revitalization of basketball courts at Dixon Park and Woolner Park. Such partnerships demonstrate the City’s commitment to fostering community engagement and enhancing public spaces while easing financial pressures on municipal resources.

The City of Toronto is also advancing its Ice Facilities Strategy, a long-term plan to optimize the use of both indoor and outdoor ice facilities and guide future investments. The strategy aims to ensure that residents across the city have access to skating, hockey, and curling opportunities.
