MiWay Encourages Riders to Take Transit for FIFA World Cup 2026™ Events
Mississauga transit agency highlights affordable options for travelling to matches, fan zones and celebrations
MISSISSAUGA — As excitement builds for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, MiWay is encouraging residents and visitors to leave their cars at home and use public transit to reach matches, watch parties and celebrations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
The City of Mississauga says transit will offer a convenient and cost-effective option for fans travelling to Toronto Stadium, Celebration Square and other World Cup-related events.
With six FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches scheduled in Toronto and fan events planned across the region, officials say transit will help reduce traffic congestion while providing reliable access to tournament activities.
PRESTO remains the lowest-cost option
MiWay is promoting PRESTO as the most affordable way to travel throughout the tournament period.
Current MiWay fares include:
- Children (ages 6-12): Free
- Youth (ages 13-19): $2.90 per ride
- Adults: $3.50 per ride
- Seniors (65+): Free
The transit agency notes that a monthly PRESTO pass costs $145 and provides unlimited rides, which can be significantly less expensive than regular fuel and parking costs.
PRESTO cards can be added digitally to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet or purchased as physical cards through customer service outlets.
Because PRESTO is accepted across multiple transit systems in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, riders can seamlessly connect between MiWay, GO Transit and the TTC.
How to get to Toronto Stadium
MiWay has outlined a recommended route for fans travelling from Mississauga to Toronto Stadium.
The trip begins with a MiWay connection to a nearby GO Transit station, including:
- Clarkson GO
- Cooksville GO
- Meadowvale GO
- Port Credit GO
- Streetsville GO
Fans can then travel on GO Transit to Exhibition GO Station, which offers direct walking access to Toronto Stadium.
Alternatively, riders travelling through Union Station can connect to TTC streetcar service. The 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst streetcar routes provide access to the stadium area.
Celebration Square offers local viewing option
For fans who prefer to stay closer to home, Mississauga Celebration Square will provide another opportunity to experience the tournament atmosphere.
The City is encouraging residents to use MiWay to travel to downtown Mississauga, where they can gather to watch FIFA World Cup 2026™ action on large screens during public viewing events.
Officials say MiWay’s extensive network makes it easy for residents from across Mississauga to reach Celebration Square without the hassle of parking.
Preparing for a busy summer of soccer
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will take place from June 11 to July 19, with Toronto serving as one of the tournament’s official host cities.
As thousands of fans travel throughout the GTA for matches and celebrations, municipal transit agencies are expected to play a key role in moving spectators efficiently across the region.
MiWay officials say planning ahead, loading a PRESTO card and using transit connections can help fans enjoy the tournament while avoiding traffic and parking challenges.
More information about routes, schedules and trip planning is available through MiWay’s website and customer service channels.
