MIWAY FARES TO INCREASE JANUARY 1 AS CASH FARE RISES TO $4.50
MiWay fares change January 1 as cash fares rise to $4.50 and PRESTO rates are updated
MISSISSAUGA – MiWay riders will see fare changes take effect on January 1, with increases to both cash and PRESTO fares for adults, seniors and youth, the City of Mississauga confirmed on December 15.
Under the new structure, the cash fare will rise to $4.50 for all age groups, excluding children who continue to ride free. City officials say the higher cash fare is intended to encourage riders to shift toward PRESTO, which offers lower fares and greater integration with other transit systems across the region.
Push Toward PRESTO and One Fare Integration
PRESTO remains the preferred payment method across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and Ottawa, including MiWay, the TTC and GO Transit. The City says harmonizing cash fares simplifies payment while promoting PRESTO’s cost and transfer benefits.
Through Ontario’s One Fare Program, PRESTO users receive free transfers when connecting between MiWay and the TTC, GO Transit, Brampton Transit, York Region Transit (YRT) and Durham Region Transit. This program is particularly beneficial for Mississauga riders transferring between MiWay and the TTC at shared connection points.
Seniors Ride Free With PRESTO
Seniors aged 65 and older can continue to ride MiWay for free when using a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type. Seniors must visit a customer service outlet and provide proof of age to update their card.
PRESTO cards not set to a specific fare type will be charged the $3.50 adult PRESTO single fare.
New MiWay Fare Rates
Effective January 1, MiWay fares will be:
-
Adult cash fare: $4.50
-
Senior cash fare: $4.50
-
Youth cash fare: $4.50
-
Adult PRESTO single fare: $3.50
-
Youth PRESTO single fare: $2.90
-
Adult PRESTO monthly pass: $145
-
Adult Affordable Transit Program PRESTO monthly pass: $72.50
City officials encourage riders to plan ahead and consider switching to PRESTO to take advantage of lower fares and free transfers.
