Facility Closures and Upgrades
Residents should be aware of the upcoming temporary closures affecting several popular facilities:
- South Common Community Centre: Closed on June 17th, this facility is undergoing extensive redevelopment until 2027. - Iceland Arena: This facility is set to close for substantial lifecycle, aesthetic, and accessibility improvements. Rinks 1 and 3 are expected to reopen for rentals and programming in September 2024, promising a refreshed and more accessible ice experience.
- Paramount Fine Foods Centre: The Main Spectator Arena (Rink 1) will be closed for renovations and enhancements until November 2024. In addition, construction is underway for a new double gymnasium at the Sportsplex facility. This gymnasium, expected to open in spring 2026, will serve as the primary practice court for the Raptors905 G League franchise and expand community access to gymnasium space. The project is made possible through a partnership with Raptors 905/Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE).

- Burnhamthorpe Community Centre: The newly redeveloped centre features a 25-metre six-lane lap pool, a rock climbing wall, a warm water therapeutic pool, a modern fitness centre, and improved event spaces including the Dixie Woods Room for gatherings.
- Hazel McCallion Central Library: This library now offers a versatile space designed to cater to diverse interests, with dedicated areas for both children and adults to engage in community learning.
- Malton Youth Hub (Jonathan Davis Centre): A new haven for youth, the hub includes a teaching kitchen, music recording studio, multi-media space, drop-in room, and various facilities for spiritual and counselling support.
- Paul Coffey Arena: Available for floor rentals and meeting room bookings, with ice season resuming in September 2024.
