Mississauga Seeks Public Input for a Healthier and More Inclusive City
Mississauga – The City of Mississauga is inviting residents to share their thoughts on creating a healthier, more equitable community. The city is developing two key strategies – the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy and the Healthy City Strategy – aimed at addressing significant health challenges and advancing inclusivity.
Residents are encouraged to attend a Community Session on Thursday, October 24, at the Mississauga Valleys Community Centre to provide feedback on the draft plans. The session will cover topics such as improving city services, policies, and programs; addressing barriers to equitable access; and recommendations for change in city processes and employment practices.
Help us build a healthier city that provides equitable access to services.

The Healthy City Strategy comes in response to alarming trends in Type 2 diabetes rates within the community, which are among the highest in Ontario. The initiative focuses on reducing the risk and burden of the disease by encouraging healthier living, working, and recreational habits. A draft strategy has been developed from previous consultations, and the city is now seeking further input to refine the plan.
The EDI Strategy, launched earlier this year as part of the “Empowering Change” project, aims to dismantle barriers and promote equity across city functions. The strategy covers four primary areas: employment, service provision, policymaking, and procurement. The city has partnered with the Diversity Institute to guide these efforts, addressing systemic racism and fostering an inclusive environment.
The session will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Larry Taylor Room, Mississauga Valleys Community Centre. Those interested can register on Eventbrite.
