Mississauga Library Joins National Digital Book Club Offering Free Access to Canadian Bestseller
Mississauga Library One eRead Canada program gives readers free access to bestselling novel
Mississauga residents are being invited to take part in a nationwide reading experience this April, as the Mississauga Library partners with One eRead Canada to offer unlimited digital access to a Canadian bestselling novel.
Throughout the month, library cardholders can instantly borrow the award-winning book What I Know About You (Ce que je sais de toi) by Éric Chacour, translated by Pablo Strauss, in both eBook and audiobook formats.
Free, Unlimited Access to a Canadian Bestseller
Unlike typical digital lending models that limit the number of available copies, the One eRead Canada initiative allows unlimited checkouts of the featured title for the duration of the campaign.
The novel, set in late twentieth-century Cairo, explores themes of family, identity and love shaped by cultural expectations and personal secrets. Readers can access the book through the Mississauga Library’s online catalogue and read or listen on mobile devices, tablets or audiobooks platforms.
Library officials say the program is designed to remove barriers and make reading more accessible to a wider audience.
National Conversation Through a Shared Reading Experience
In addition to borrowing the book, participants are invited to join a live virtual author talk on April 30 at 7 p.m., streamed on the Mississauga Library’s YouTube channel.
The event will feature author Éric Chacour and translator Pablo Strauss in conversation with Antonio M. Downing, host of CBC’s The Next Chapter. The discussion will be presented in English and is open to the public.
Supporting Access and Awareness in Digital Publishing
The One eRead Canada program is led by the Canadian Urban Libraries Council and aims to highlight the challenges libraries face in providing access to digital books, including high licensing costs for eBooks and audiobooks.
By offering a shared national reading experience, the initiative also supports Canadian authors and publishers while encouraging readers to discover new voices.
Mississauga Library says the program aligns with its broader goals under its Future Directions Plan to promote literacy, expand access to digital resources and foster community engagement through reading.
How to Participate
Mississauga residents can access the book by logging into the library’s digital catalogue with a valid library card. Those who are not yet members can register for a free virtual library card through the Mississauga Library website.
The author talk will be available live on April 30, with details accessible through the library’s online platforms.
