Mississauga Launches Free Fitness Membership for Residents 65 and Older Starting April 1

Mississauga The City of Mississauga is rolling out a game-changing initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness among its aging population. Starting April 1, 2025, residents aged 65 and older will be eligible for the city’s first-ever free 65+ Fit membership, giving approximately 130,000 older adults access to a wide range of recreational and fitness amenities across Mississauga.

The program is designed to eliminate financial barriers to physical activity and encourage active lifestyles among seniors. Available at 13 community locations, including the Mississauga Seniors’ Centre, the 65+ Fit membership includes:

  • Access to over 400 drop-in group exercise classes, both in-person and virtual

  • A free 45-minute consultation with a City personal trainer

  • Use of weight rooms, cardio equipment, fitness studios, and squash courts

  • Indoor walking tracks at Carmen Corbasson and Meadowvale Community Centres

  • Unlimited recreational swims and skates, with some exclusions

“This membership is about breaking down barriers, saving them money, and offering meaningful opportunities to stay healthy and engaged,” said Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish. “Mississauga is proud to lead the way with programs like this that enhance the quality of life for older residents.”

To register, residents must visit a community centre with proof of Mississauga residency and valid ID (such as a utility bill or Ontario driver’s license). A photograph is required to issue the membership card, and memberships must be renewed annually.

While the base membership is free, standard drop-in fees still apply for select activities such as Aquafitness, Pickleball, and Shinny Hockey. Residents must also ensure their City accounts are in good standing at the time of registration.

More information is available on the City of Mississauga’s website under the 65+ Fit membership page.
