Personalized Energy Coaching
For those unsure where to start, CCET offers free home-energy coaching sessions to guide homeowners through the retrofit process. The organization, dedicated to advancing a low-carbon future in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon, provides resources to help residents adopt low-carbon and resilient technologies.
Importance of Energy Audits
The City encourages residents to begin their retrofit journey with an EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluation, conducted by registered energy advisors. This audit provides an efficiency report and an EnerGuide rating to help identify the best upgrades for each home.
Simple Retrofits with Big Impacts
Energy retrofits don’t have to break the bank. Some cost-effective measures include:
- Switching to LED bulbs
- Using smart plugs to reduce standby power
- Reducing heating or cooling in unused rooms
- Sealing air leaks and improving insulation
Heat Pumps: Efficient Heating and Cooling
For those ready to make a significant change, the session will discuss the benefits of installing a heat pump, an energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems. Heat pumps use electricity to provide three times the heating capability of a furnace, offering reduced carbon emissions and lower energy costs.
Supporting the Climate Change Action Plan
The Home Retrofits 101 session aligns with Mississauga’s Climate Change Action Plan, which emphasizes partnerships like the one with CCET to provide residents with actionable information on adopting sustainable practices.
