Mississauga Hit by Severe Flooding: Roads and Parks Closed

Mississauga, – The city of Mississauga is grappling with widespread flooding following the recent torrential downpour. Localized flooding has affected various parts of the city, with creeks and rivers either at capacity or overflowing into parks and greenspaces. As a precaution, numerous roads and park walkways have been closed to ensure public safety.

City Crews Mobilized

City crews are working around the clock to manage the aftermath of the flooding. High volumes of service requests are being addressed, focusing on:

  • Mitigating flooding on sidewalks, roads, parks, and trails.
  • Replacing dislodged maintenance hole covers.
  • Clearing blocked catch basins.
  • Assisting police with road closures.

Several roads remain closed due to severe flooding:

  • Bridge on King Street between Camilla Road and Frayne Avenue.
  • Britannia Road West and Ninth Line.
  • Falbourne Street.
  • Greenpark Crescent.
  • Matheson Boulevard at Timberlea Road.
  • Mississauga Road and QEW.
  • Paisley Boulevard and Sheppard Avenue.
  • Paisley Boulevard East (affecting Catherine Jean Lane and King Street East).
  • Queen Frederica Drive.
  • Torbram Road at the Railway underpass.

Parks and Trails Affected

In addition to road closures, several parks and trails are off-limits due to flooding, including:

  • Applewood Hills Trail (along Little Etobicoke Creek).

  • Courtneypark Athletic Fields (St. Marcellinus).

Impact on Sports Fields

All major City-owned soccer, baseball, football, and cricket fields are closed today. The city will reassess conditions tomorrow morning and provide updates.

Residents are advised to take the following precautions during this weather emergency:

  • Emergency Calls: Only dial 911 for immediate danger or rescue assistance.
  • 311 Service: Due to high call volumes, expect delays when contacting 311 for weather-related issues.
  • Basement Flooding: Do not attempt to shut off electricity if water is present. If water has risen above electrical outlets, baseboards, or furnaces, contact Alectra at 1-833-253-2872. Condo and apartment residents should reach out to property management for assistance and updates.
  • General Safety: Steer clear of stormwater ponds, culverts, streams, and rivers. Avoid traveling through flooded areas. Ensure roof water drains properly, and keep catch basins clear of debris. Report blocked catch basins to 311.
  • Travel Safety: If driving, adjust speed and leave extra space for stopping. Watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop. If walking or cycling, use designated crosswalks or crossrides.
