Mississauga Launches “Earth Days” Events to Promote Sustainability and Climate Action
Mississauga Earth Days 2026 features citywide events and climate action initiatives
The City of Mississauga is inviting residents to take part in a wide range of environmental activities this spring as part of its Earth Days initiative, running from April 13 to June 6, 2026.
The program coincides with Earth Day on April 22 and is designed to encourage residents to reduce waste, support green spaces and contribute to the City’s updated Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), which aims to deliver stronger emissions reduction targets and improve climate resilience.
A Broader Push for Climate Action
City officials say the updated CCAP will focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through waste reduction, cleaner energy solutions and improved energy efficiency.
Residents are also being invited to participate in the final phase of the City’s Community Dialogue Series, where feedback will help shape the next version of Mississauga’s climate strategy.
Virtual and in-person sessions are scheduled for April 17 and April 22, respectively, with the in-person session taking place at Hazel McCallion Central Library.
Earth Days Programming Across the City
A series of family-friendly and educational activities will take place at libraries, community centres and parks throughout the city.
Programming includes:
- Earth Day-themed crafts and storytime sessions at local libraries
- A screening of The Lorax at Hazel McCallion Central Library
- Gardening advice sessions with Mississauga Master Gardeners
- Hands-on family activities focused on sustainability and nature
Residents can also visit repair hubs to fix broken items such as electronics, clothing and bicycles, helping to reduce waste and extend product life cycles.
Waste Reduction and Recycling Initiatives
The City is expanding recycling efforts during Earth Days, including clothing and electronics drop-offs at City Hall and community centres.
A new pilot program will also allow residents to safely dispose of used vape products at designated collection points, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in Ontario.
In addition, a reusable cup pilot program launching April 20 at City Hall will encourage residents to reduce single-use waste by offering reusable cups for beverages.
Community Cleanups and Tree Planting
Residents are encouraged to take part in community litter cleanups on April 22 and April 25 or organize their own cleanups throughout the season.
Tree planting events will also be held across Mississauga as part of the City’s One Million Trees initiative, with a free tree giveaway scheduled for April 22 at a City facility on Mavis Road.
Officials say these efforts are key to strengthening local biodiversity and supporting long-term environmental sustainability.
Getting Involved
Earth Days events are open to all Mississauga residents, with some activities requiring advance registration through the City’s website.
City officials emphasize that individual actions—whether planting a tree, repairing an item or participating in a cleanup—can collectively make a meaningful impact.
