🛴 Mississauga Expands E-Bike and E-Scooter Parking with 100+ New Stations
MISSISSAUGA — The City of Mississauga is rolling out more than 100 new parking stations for its growing shared e-bike and e-scooter program, with the updated infrastructure launching Friday, May 16. The move is aimed at improving organization, addressing resident concerns, and expanding safe access to micromobility options across the city.
The parking stations—marked by painted lines, rubber mats, or physical infrastructure—will be installed in high-demand zones such as GO train stations, City-owned transit terminals, express bus stops, and major urban centres including Clarkson, Malton, Streetsville, Port Credit, and Cooksville. Additional parking will be available in the City Centre and Lakefront Promenade districts.
New Parking Rules and Design Standards
Going forward, all riders must end their trip at a designated parking area. While users previously needed to lock devices to a pole or bike rack, that requirement has been removed to simplify and standardize parking. The Lime and Bird Canada apps will now show more than 600 approved parking areas.
“We heard your feedback,” said Sam Rogers, Commissioner of Transportation and Works. “Installing new parking stations in dense areas will help address some of the concerns from last year. We’re also planning to offer more education to our residents and riders about safety, rules and parking.”
Year-over-Year Growth
From June to December 2024, more than 120,000 rides were taken through the program, involving over 45,000 unique users. Usage was concentrated around transit hubs, schools, business improvement areas, and local parks. Approximately 13% of all trips either started or ended in a BIA.
The service expanded to include new parking areas at the University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College’s Hazel McCallion Campus, facilitating thousands of student and staff rides.
Fines and Compliance Updates
In 2024, 96% of all trips complied with program rules. Still, over 4,300 warnings were issued—mostly for improper parking and sidewalk riding. This year, fines for violations will double, with repeat offenders facing $20 penalties and possible account suspensions. Dangerous behaviours such as underage riding or carrying passengers will trigger immediate bans.
Education Campaigns Launching Citywide
To support safer use, Mississauga is launching a major education campaign in 2025. Staff will appear at Community Rides, local events, and public spaces to offer guidance on safety and parking. The City is also working with the Peel District and Dufferin-Peel Catholic school boards to promote e-scooter safety among students and families.
Background
Mississauga’s shared micro mobility program launched in June 2024 in partnership with Lime Technology, Inc. and Bird Canada, offering 300 e-bikes and 900 e-scooters for rent. The program began following Council approval in 2022 and was developed based on community consultation dating back to 2019.
