Mississauga Director of Traffic Management appointment strengthens road safety and parking oversight

MISSISSAUGA – The City of Mississauga has formally appointed Colin Patterson as its new Director of Traffic Management and Municipal Parking, following a competitive recruitment process. The appointment took effect on December 15, 2025, the City confirmed in a news release issued December 19.

Patterson reports to the Commissioner of Transportation and Works and will lead a multi-disciplinary division responsible for maintaining and improving the safety, efficiency and reliability of Mississauga’s road network. The division oversees both capital projects and day-to-day operations across four key areas: Traffic Signals and Systems, Traffic Services and Road Safety, Street Lighting and Projects, and Municipal Parking.

Nearly Two Decades of Municipal Experience

Patterson brings close to 20 years of progressive leadership experience with the City of Mississauga. He has served as Acting Director since August 2024 and previously held the role of Manager of Traffic Services and Road Safety.

In that capacity, Patterson played a central role in shaping Mississauga’s Road Safety Program and advancing the City’s Vision Zero Strategy, which aims to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. City officials say he has been instrumental in introducing new technologies while maintaining stable, secure and intelligent traffic management systems.

Focus on Innovation and Road Safety

As Director, Patterson will be responsible for driving innovation in traffic operations, street lighting and municipal parking while ensuring the City continues to meet growing transportation demands. His work will directly affect daily commuters, pedestrians, cyclists and motorists across Mississauga.

Sam Rogers, Commissioner of Transportation and Works, said Patterson’s leadership will support the City’s long-term mobility goals.

“I’m pleased to welcome Colin to this role permanently,” Rogers said. “His leadership and expertise will help us continue advancing smart, safe, and efficient solutions for traffic systems, street lighting, municipal parking, and road safety across Mississauga.”

Patterson said he looks forward to working with Council, senior leadership and City staff to deliver reliable services.

“From traffic operations to municipal parking, together, we will help ensure safe and efficient roadways for all users,” he said.

Professional Credentials

Patterson is a Certified Road Safety Professional and a Certified Engineering Technologist. He holds an advanced diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Humber College.
