Mississauga City Offices Closed for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Mississauga, ON — The City of Mississauga has closed all city offices today, September 30, in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is dedicated to honoring the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities affected by this painful legacy.

Established in 2021, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation encourages Canadians to reflect on the historical injustices faced by Indigenous peoples and to engage in meaningful discussions about reconciliation. Various organizations across the country are promoting awareness and understanding through educational initiatives, community gatherings, and cultural events.

The City of Mississauga is encouraging residents to participate in local activities that promote reflection and education on Indigenous history and culture. Residents are also invited to visit the City’s website for resources and information on how they can contribute to reconciliation efforts within the community.

City offices will resume regular hours tomorrow, October 1. The City of Mississauga emphasizes the importance of recognizing this day as part of the ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation in Canada.
