Mississauga Approves 2025 Fees and Charges for MiWay and Other Services
Mississauga, ON — As part of its annual budget process, the Budget Committee approved the 2025 schedule for fees and charges related to City services and programs, including MiWay transit fares and permits. These charges help the City recover the costs of services and activities it provides.
2025 Fee Schedule Highlights
MiWay (Effective July 1, 2025) MiWay ridership has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, with growth projected at 14% in 2024 and an additional 7% in 2025. This increased ridership has enabled City Council to maintain steady transit fares, while continuing to support service expansion.
Budget Committee approves the schedule for fees and charges for 2025, focusing on service sustainability, protecting affordable transit and providing free fares for seniors.

- No MiWay fare increase for 2025.
- The pilot discount program for children aged 6–12 using PRESTO will become permanent, offering free fares.
- Permanent free fares for seniors aged 65 and over, starting July 1, 2025, for those using PRESTO. Seniors paying with cash will continue to pay $1 per ride.
Parks, Forestry, and Environment New fees were proposed to ensure cost recovery and maintain the high quality of Mississauga’s parks. These fees include:
- Resident and non-resident Weekly Lakefront Promenade Buddy Pass for Credit Village Marina.
- Lakefront Promenade meeting room rental fees.
- Tennis/Pickleball court hourly fees for adults, youth, residents, and non-residents.
Understanding Fees and Charges
City fees and charges apply to anyone using services such as transit, recreation programs, or applying for permits. These fees, which account for about 20% of the City’s budget, help offset potential tax increases. Unlike property taxes, which fund general public services, user fees are directly tied to specific programs or services benefiting individual users.
The City’s Fees and Charges By-law outlines proposed rates for services. These recommendations are scheduled for implementation on January 1, 2025, with certain exceptions to align with specific services.
Budget Committee Meetings
The next Budget Committee meeting will take place on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Public participation is encouraged, and the full meeting schedule can be found online.
