Minister Joly to Attend NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Brussels
OTTAWA – Foreign Affairs and International Development Minister Mélanie Joly will travel to Brussels, Belgium, this week to represent Canada at the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting from April 3 to 4.
The meeting comes as NATO marks its 76th anniversary, bringing together foreign ministers from the alliance’s 32 member states to address shared security threats across the Euro-Atlantic region. While in Brussels, Minister Joly is expected to meet with key allies and partners to discuss collective responses to emerging global challenges.
“NATO has safeguarded our populations for 76 years,” said Joly in a statement. “I look forward to discussing international security challenges with our NATO Allies and partners while in Brussels.”
Canada is a founding member of NATO, having helped establish the alliance in 1949. Today, NATO remains a key pillar of Canada’s international defence and security policy, providing a platform for the country’s participation in global peace and stability efforts.
The Brussels gathering comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension, with discussions expected to cover a wide range of topics including Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine, hybrid threats, and support for democratic institutions.
