Toronto withstands Florida’s late push; heads to Sunrise with momentum

TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs seized a 2–0 series lead over the Florida Panthers with a 4–3 victory in Game 2 of their second-round playoff series on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena.

Mitch Marner scored the game-winning goal just 17 seconds after Florida’s Anton Lundell had tied the game early in the third period. Marner’s shot from above the right face-off circle beat Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky high to the blocker side, restoring Toronto’s lead at 5:50 of the third.

Max Pacioretty and Max Domi each contributed a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs. William Nylander also found the net, while Morgan Rielly recorded two assists. Goaltender Joseph Woll made 25 saves in his first start of the postseason.

For the Panthers, Aleksander Barkov opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period. Brad Marchand and Anton Lundell added goals, with Eetu Luostarinen providing two assists. Bobrovsky stopped 16 shots in the loss.

The Maple Leafs successfully killed off a late Florida power play and withstood a 5-on-6 attack in the final minutes to secure the win.
