The project will more than double the size of the original park, aligning with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines and integrating Indigenous Placekeeping elements. The site’s historical significance, near a 14th-century Huron-Wendat village discovered in 2000, is honored through collaboration with the Huron-Wendat First Nation, reflecting their culture and history throughout the park as part of the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
Mayor Chow emphasized the importance of this refurbishment in enhancing community spaces:
“Refurbishing L’Amoreaux Kidstown Water Park is not just about updating our facilities – it’s about reimagining the entire experience which has been a staple for outdoor summer fun for decades. The refurbishment is made possible in part with Back on Track funding to address the critical need for accelerated infrastructure projects that breathe new life into the City’s beloved indoor and outdoor public spaces.”
Councillor Mantas highlighted the impact on local families:
“Once complete, the redesign of L’Amoreaux Kidstown Water Park will create lasting memories for generations to come. Kids and families from Scarborough will get to experience unparalleled fun. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the wave of joy we’re building right here in my riding.”
The redesigned water park is set to open in summer 2025. Extensive public and Indigenous engagement has ensured the project meets the community’s needs and desires.
