Louise Imbeault Appointed as New Brunswick’s Lieutenant Governor

Ottawa, ON – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Louise Imbeault as the new Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. Imbeault, a prominent journalist, women’s rights advocate, and celebrated member of the Acadian community, will succeed the Honourable Brenda Murphy in the role.

Imbeault’s distinguished career includes significant contributions to promoting Acadian culture globally, particularly through her work with Radio-Canada Acadie. Her tireless advocacy and community engagement have earned her prestigious accolades such as the Order of Moncton, the Order of New Brunswick, and the Order of Canada.

“Her dedication to and leadership in the Acadian community is enduring, and I am confident she will continue to serve the people of New Brunswick with distinction in her new role,” said Prime Minister Trudeau in his announcement.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to outgoing Lieutenant Governor Brenda Murphy for her service to New Brunswick and the nation.

Imbeault’s appointment is seen as a milestone for the Acadian community, which she has long championed. Her leadership in her new role is expected to further reflect her commitment to cultural preservation and community empowerment.
