Lexus Marks 35 Years in Canada with Celebratory Events

TORONTO – Lexus is celebrating 35 years in Canada, marking over three decades of innovation, luxury, and commitment to quality. Since launching in Canada in 1990, Lexus has grown from offering just two sedans to a lineup of 16 models, including some of the country’s best-selling luxury SUVs. To commemorate this milestone, Lexus has planned a series of regional events throughout the year, each highlighting a different chapter of its journey in Canada.

The first event took place in February in Quebec City, showcasing Lexus’ history, particularly the evolution of its SUV lineup. Lexus was instrumental in creating the luxury crossover segment with the introduction of the RX 300 in 1998, a model that continues to be a cornerstone of the brand’s success. The second event, scheduled for this summer in Ontario, will emphasize the importance of Canadian manufacturing, while the third event, set for the fall in British Columbia, will look ahead to the future of Lexus, with a focus on electrification and dealership evolution.

Since its arrival in Canada, Lexus has sold over 450,000 vehicles nationwide, making Canada the fourth-largest market for the brand globally. In 2024 alone, Lexus sold more than 27,000 vehicles in Canada, reflecting its continued growth and consumer trust. A key part of this success has been its partnership with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) in southwestern Ontario. The facility, which employs over 8,500 Canadians, was the first manufacturing plant outside of Japan to produce a Lexus vehicle and remains the production hub for two of the brand’s best-selling models: the NX and RX.

From its early years with just two models to its leadership in hybrid and electric vehicle technology, Lexus has continually pushed boundaries. The company introduced the world’s first hybrid luxury vehicle, the RX 400h, in 2005 and more recently launched its first global battery electric vehicle, the RZ 450e, in 2023. This year, Lexus is launching the LX 700h, its first hybrid flagship SUV, further strengthening its commitment to electrification.

Lexus Canada operates through a network of 40 dealerships, offering a wide range of luxury and performance vehicles. With a focus on bold design, advanced technology, and a human-centered approach, Lexus has built a reputation for delivering a premium ownership experience.

As Lexus looks to the future, its commitment to Canadian manufacturing, sustainability, and innovation remains at the forefront. The 35th-anniversary celebrations provide an opportunity to reflect on the brand’s history while setting the stage for its next chapter in Canada’s luxury automotive market.
