Jason Ash Honoured with 2025 Agnes Macphail Award for Community Leadership

TORONTO – The City of Toronto and Mayor Olivia Chow have recognized Jason Ash as the 2025 recipient of the Agnes Macphail Award, celebrating his unwavering dedication to social advocacy and community leadership in Thorncliffe Park. The award was presented in a special ceremony, highlighting Ash’s commitment to improving public transit accessibility, tenant rights, and public spaces.

Ash played a pivotal role in advocating for extended TTC bus routes to better serve Thorncliffe Park residents and co-founded Friends of Thorncliffe Park, a group focused on fostering inclusivity and enhancing local public spaces. His work with the Leaside Towers Tenants’ Association has strengthened tenant rights, while his leadership on The Neighbourhood Organization board has supported essential community programs.

Additionally, Ash has been a vocal advocate for preserving the Ontario Science Centre, rallying community support to maintain its presence in the area. His impact is visible in both grassroots mobilization and policy advocacy, making him a fitting recipient of the Agnes Macphail Award.

Established in 1994, the award honours individuals who exemplify the values of social justice, equality, and community engagement, continuing the legacy of Agnes Macphail, Canada’s first female Member of Parliament. It is presented annually to a resident of the former borough of East York who has demonstrated outstanding contributions through volunteerism and advocacy.
