Highway 413 Construction Progresses with Key Milestone
Toronto, ON – Construction on the highly anticipated Highway 413 project has reached a critical milestone with crews now drilling at the future ramp connecting the Highway 401/407 interchange to the new highway. This development was highlighted by Ontario Minister of Transportation, Prabmeet Sarkaria, in a recent update shared on social media.
The ambitious Highway 413 project aims to alleviate congestion in the Greater Toronto Area by providing an alternative route for commuters. Once completed, the highway is expected to save drivers up to an hour during peak rush-hour traffic, easing gridlock and improving travel efficiency.
The ramp at the 401/407 interchange is a pivotal feature of the project, designed to seamlessly integrate Highway 413 into the province’s existing transportation network. The drilling activity represents significant progress toward the government’s goal of enhancing mobility across the region.

Premier Doug Ford and his government have championed Highway 413 as a solution to GTA’s worsening traffic challenges, asserting that it will deliver benefits such as reduced commute times, increased economic productivity, and better access to key destinations.
However, the project has faced criticism from environmental groups and community stakeholders concerned about its potential impact on farmland, wetlands, and local ecosystems. Despite these concerns, the Ford government remains committed to completing the highway.
Highway 413, which will span 59 kilometers from Halton to York Region, is slated to include multiple interchanges, a dedicated transitway, and facilities for active transportation. The government has not yet announced an official completion date.
This development reinforces Ontario’s focus on building critical infrastructure to support the region’s growing population and economic needs.
