Silk Launches High-Protein Plant-Based Beverage in Canada
High-Protein Plant-Based Beverage Expands Silk’s Canadian Lineup
TORONTO — Silk has launched a new high-protein plant-based beverage in Canada as consumer demand for protein-rich food and drink options continues to grow.
The new product, Silk 18g Protein, is being introduced by Danone Canada and is described as the first high-protein plant-based beverage in Canada offering 18 grams of complete protein per serving.
The refrigerated beverage is now available at major grocery retailers nationwide in Regular and Chocolate flavours.
Protein Demand Continues to Grow
According to Danone Canada, protein remains one of the most sought-after nutrients among Canadian consumers, with 71 per cent of Canadians reportedly looking to increase their protein intake as part of a balanced lifestyle.
“Protein is a key nutrient for health at every stage of life, and we know that plant-based proteins, including soy, can offer long-term health benefits,” said Janna Boloten, Director of Nutrition and Scientific Affairs at Danone Canada.
Boloten added that Canada’s Food Guide encourages Canadians to incorporate plant-based protein foods more often into their diets.
Plant-Based Category Expands Beyond Traditional Consumers
The launch reflects continued growth in the plant-based beverage sector, which has expanded in recent years beyond consumers seeking dairy alternatives.
Danone Canada said the new beverage was designed to provide a protein-focused option without sacrificing taste or convenience.
The company says Silk 18g Protein includes:
- 18 grams of protein per 250 mL serving
- Added fibre
- Ten essential nutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, and B vitamins
- Reduced sugar compared to some traditional dairy milk products
The beverage is packaged in a 1.42-litre refrigerated format.
Focus on Everyday Use
Company representatives say the product was designed for everyday consumption, including use in coffee, cereal, smoothies, or as a standalone beverage.
The launch comes as plant-based foods continue to gain visibility in Canadian grocery stores, particularly among consumers seeking alternative protein sources and more flexible dietary options.
Silk, which has operated in the plant-based category since 1977, is part of Danone’s global portfolio of dairy and plant-based brands.
Canadian Market Continues to Evolve
The Canadian plant-based beverage market has become increasingly competitive in recent years as major food companies expand their offerings in response to changing consumer preferences tied to health, sustainability, and nutrition trends.
Industry analysts continue to track growing interest in products that combine convenience, protein content, and plant-based ingredients.
Danone Canada said the launch of Silk 18g Protein is intended to make high-protein plant-based beverages more accessible to mainstream consumers across the country.
