Heavy Rain Causes Localized Flooding and Traffic Disruptions Across Mississauga
Mississauga — Mississauga is currently grappling with severe weather conditions as heavy rainfall continues to impact the city. The ongoing downpour has led to localized flooding, significant traffic disruptions, and dangerous road conditions.
Flooding Overview:
- All creeks and rivers throughout Mississauga are either at capacity or overflowing into parks and greenspaces.
- A heavy rainfall warning remains in effect for the weekend, with local rainfall amounts expected to range from 100 to 200 mm.
With today’s torrential rainy conditions, Mississauga may see 100-200 mm of rain. 🌧️

Traffic and Road Closures:
Several roads across the city are closed or experiencing significant disruptions, including:
- Britannia/Convair Dr. closed to Renforth Rd./Convair Dr.
- Convair Dr. between Renforth Rd. and Britannia Rd. E.
- Dixie Rd./Dundas St.
- Hurontario St./Centre View Dr.
- King St.
- Mavis Rd./Lafayette Dr.
- Rathburn Rd. W./Elora Dr.
- Rathburn Rd./Sherwoodtowne Blvd.
- Rathburn Rd./Station Gate Rd.
Trail and Sports Field Closures:
- All City sports fields are closed until Monday, August 19.
- Residents are advised to avoid parks and trails surrounding creeks and watersheds, including 16-mile Creek, Cooksville Creek, Credit River, Little Etobicoke Creek, Mimico Creek, and Sawmill Creek.
Airport Travel:
- Travelers heading to Toronto Pearson Airport should allow extra time for their journeys due to slower travel conditions.
Safety Measures:
- Monitor Environment Canada for weather warnings and updates.
- Avoid dialling 911 unless you are in immediate danger or need emergency assistance.
- Exercise caution around stormwater ponds, culverts, streams, and rivers. Do not travel through flooded areas.
- Ensure eavestroughs and downspouts are clear and keep storm drains free of debris.
- Report any blocked storm drains, fallen trees, and flooding to 311. Power outages should be reported to Alectra.

- If your home or basement has flooded, do not attempt to shut off electricity if water is present. Contact Alectra immediately if water has risen above electrical outlets or baseboards.
