Hazel McCallion Line Construction Progresses with Key Updates
Mississauga, ON – Construction on the Hazel McCallion Line continues to advance, with significant developments across several key areas in Mississauga and Brampton. This vital transit project is set to enhance connectivity and ease of travel for residents and visitors.
Mississauga South: The Eaglewood Boulevard Bridge has recently opened, marking a significant milestone. Concurrently, the demolition of the Inglewood Drive Bridge is underway, with work expected to conclude by July 19, 2024. Temporary driveway closures along Hurontario Street, from north of Inglewood Drive to Indian Valley Trail, are in effect until July 31, 2024, to facilitate construction activities. Additionally, turning restrictions at the intersection of Mineola Road and Hurontario Street will be in place from July 22 to August 19, 2024, to ensure safety and smooth operations.
Mississauga Centre/Cooksville: Lane reductions and turn restrictions are currently being enforced for track installation at The Queensway and Hurontario Street, with this phase expected to complete by August 6, 2024. Further north, lane reductions are scheduled at the intersection of Burnhamthorpe Road and Hurontario Street from July 11 to September 19, 2024, as crews work diligently on track installation.
Mississauga North & Brampton: Details for Mississauga North and Brampton are yet to be updated, as work progresses in these regions.
Track Work Update: The track installation is a major component of the ongoing construction, with crews actively working in areas such as Burnhamthorpe Road, The Queensway, and Square One Drive. In Mississauga South, track installation will soon commence at Mineola Road. The project team is working to complete this phase before the start of the school year, minimizing disruption for nearby educational institutions.
As work continues, lane reductions at Burnhamthorpe Road and Hurontario Street are expected to impact traffic flow. The first phase, focusing on the north half of the intersection, began on July 11 and will wrap up by August 15, 2024. Following this, work will shift to the south half, with an expected completion date of September 19, 2024. During these periods, east-west traffic will be limited to a single lane in each direction, and left turns will be restricted. Detours are available via Hurontario Street and Central Parkway.
