Halton Hills Announces Earth Week 2026 with Community Events and Sustainability Initiatives
Halton Hills Earth Week 2026 features cleanups, tree planting and community events
The Town of Halton Hills is inviting residents to take part in its annual Earth Week celebrations, running from April 18 to 25, 2026, with a full lineup of activities focused on environmental awareness, sustainability and community engagement.
City officials say this year’s programming is designed to encourage residents to adopt eco-friendly habits while highlighting the importance of protecting natural spaces and supporting biodiversity.
A Week Focused on Environmental Action
Earth Week 2026 in Halton Hills will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor events aimed at residents of all ages, from environmental enthusiasts to those looking to get involved for the first time.
Mayor Ann Lawlor encouraged community participation, emphasizing that even small actions can have a lasting impact.
“There are many ways residents can take action to support a healthy environment. Whether you participate in the 22-Minute Makeover, Community Cleanup, plant a tree, or choose to walk or ride your bike instead of driving, each of your actions makes a positive difference.”
This year’s theme focuses on strengthening natural assets, promoting local biodiversity and building a more resilient, low-carbon community.
Key Events and Activities
Highlights of the week-long celebration include:
- Community Clean-up initiatives
- EcoFilm Fest screenings
- The 22-Minute Makeover campaign
- Annual Used Bike Swap
- Compost and Mulch Giveaway
- Tree planting events
Town officials say the programming is supported by local businesses and conservation partners, helping deliver a wide range of experiences for residents.
April 25 Community Events
Two major community events are scheduled for April 25:
- Compost and Mulch Giveaway: Residents can pick up free materials through a partnership between the Region of Halton and the Town. Participants are encouraged to bring their own containers.
- Annual Used Bike Swap: Residents can donate or purchase used bikes and cycling equipment, with proceeds supporting local food banks. The event will take place at the Gellert Community Centre parking lot.
The Bike Swap initiative also supports sustainable transportation by promoting reuse and reducing waste.
Encouraging Sustainable Living
Halton Hills officials say Earth Week continues to play an important role in raising awareness about environmental responsibility and encouraging residents to take practical steps toward sustainability.
By combining education, community events and hands-on activities, the Town aims to make environmental action accessible and impactful for residents across Georgetown, Acton and surrounding communities.
