Golf Town Sets World Record with 400some Event at The Club at Bond Head
TORONTO – In a spectacular event aimed at breaking down barriers in the sport, Golf Town, Canada’s leading golf retailer, hosted the 400some on October 6th at The Club at Bond Head, just north of Toronto. The 400some, which brought together 400 golfers for a simultaneous tee-off on a single hole, set a new world record for the largest foursome in history.
The event, organized in collaboration with Erik Anders Lang and his U.S.-based Random Golf Club, marked a historic moment in golf and sent a message that the sport is for everyone. Random Golf Club is known for being the world’s most inclusive golfing community, embracing players from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Bringing Inclusivity to Golf
Golf has often been perceived as an exclusive sport, with high costs, complex etiquette, and limited accessibility deterring many potential players. The 400some aimed to challenge these notions by inviting golfers from all walks of life, including newcomers to the game. Participants were selected through a nationwide contest, providing an exhilarating introduction to golf for many attendees.
Erik Anders Lang, founder of Random Golf Club, expressed his enthusiasm for the groundbreaking event: “The idea for the 400some is crazy and beautiful. Golf needs new ideas like this to get more people out and swinging, regardless of their age, background, or ability. We couldn’t be more excited about bringing this to life with Golf Town and helping Canadians build their golfing communities.”
The event also included prominent golf advocates, such as Golf Town ambassador Lisa Longball, and various partners like ParaGolf Canada, Black Women Golfers, SAP Tee Up 4 Success, and the Tamil Golfers Association, reinforcing the power of community within the sport.
A Record-Breaking Scramble
At the heart of the 400some was a massive golf scramble – the world’s largest ever. All 400 players teed off together, creating a chaotic but thrilling scene that showcased the fun and accessibility of golf. While the event was light-hearted, it underscored an important message: golf can be a sport for anyone, regardless of experience or background.
Frederick Lecoq, Chief Marketing Officer at Golf Town, reflected on the success of the 400some, saying, “Golf Town believes creating memorable experiences like the 400some will inspire more Canadians to come out and play. We were thrilled with the positive energy and fun we felt throughout the day, in an environment where everyone was welcome and part of the golf community.”
A Commitment to Growing the Game
As the largest specialty golf retailer in Canada, with 48 stores and a robust online presence, Golf Town continues to seek ways to make the sport more accessible and enjoyable. Events like the 400some, alongside initiatives like Golf Town Tournaments and custom fitting services, help foster a sense of belonging within the golfing community.
The 400some’s success not only set a world record but also highlighted a commitment to inclusivity that could reshape the future of golf in Canada. By pushing boundaries and embracing innovative ideas, Golf Town and its partners are making strides toward a more welcoming sport where everyone is encouraged to come out and play.
