Ford Unveils Updated Parliamentary Assistant Roster to Shield Ontario from Economic Turmoil

TORONTO — Premier Doug Ford has unveiled a renewed lineup of parliamentary assistants to help steer Ontario through uncertain economic waters and escalating trade tensions sparked by new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Calling the appointments “key roles” in supporting cabinet ministers and advancing the government’s agenda, Ford said the updated team will focus on building a “stronger and more competitive economy that can withstand whatever comes our way.”

Among the notable appointments:

  • Tyler Allsopp takes on the role of Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

  • Steve Clark, a former cabinet minister, returns as Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and also assumes the role of Government House Leader.

  • Anthony Leardi is named Deputy Government House Leader and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health.

  • Will Bouma assumes four parliamentary roles, including responsibilities with Indigenous Affairs and Northern Economic Development.

  • Natalie Pierre, a key player in social services, will also serve as Deputy Government Whip.

  • Matthew Rae becomes Chief Government Whip while continuing his housing file as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

The Ford government says the appointments reflect a renewed focus on provincial self-reliance, economic growth, and delivering core services amid geopolitical volatility and international trade uncertainty.

In addition to the parliamentary assistant roles, three MPPs — Laurie Scott, Ernie Hardeman, and Logan Kanapathi — are being nominated to chair legislative committees, with formal confirmation expected in the coming days.

The full list of parliamentary assistants includes both new and returning faces, reflecting the government’s effort to blend continuity with fresh leadership as Ontario faces cross-border economic pressures and the challenge of defending provincial industries.
