Finn Harding Signs Three-Year Deal with Pittsburgh Penguins
BRAMPTON, ON – The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Finn Harding to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced today. Harding, a seventh-round pick (223rd overall) in the 2024 NHL Draft, continues his rapid ascent after a standout junior career with the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads.
“I’m extremely honoured to sign my first NHL contract with the Penguins and I’m excited for what the future holds,” Harding said. “Thank you to the Steelheads organization and everyone who has helped me along the way.”
A Toronto native, Harding was initially selected by the Steelheads in the eighth round (151st overall) of the 2021 OHL Draft. He emerged as a key contributor for the team, enjoying a breakout 2023-24 season in which he posted 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) and set the franchise’s single-season plus/minus record.
Harding has taken his game to new heights this season, registering 55 points (7 goals, 48 assists) in 58 games. On February 28, he recorded his 48th assist, surpassing Thomas Harley to become the franchise’s all-time leader for most assists by a defenseman in a single season. Over his three seasons with the Steelheads, Harding has amassed 99 points (19 goals, 80 assists) in 189 games.
Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond praised Harding’s journey and dedication.
“We really couldn’t be more proud of Finn on his accomplishment of signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He has worked his tail off for everything he has earned. He has a wonderful support group with his family,” Richmond said. “Signing an NHL contract is not easy. Signing as a later pick is even more difficult and a true testament to how hard he has worked. Great job Finn. We all look forward to watching you on TV in the future.”
Harding’s signing marks another milestone in his career as he prepares to take the next step toward professional hockey with the Penguins’ organization.
