Scarborough Subway Extension Team Connects with Community through Pop-Up Events

SCARBOROUGH – In a bid to keep residents informed and engaged, the Scarborough Subway Extension project team has been actively conducting a series of pop-up events across Scarborough. Early July saw the team set up booths at popular venues such as Scarborough Town Centre, Canadian Tire, and Taste of Lawrence, providing residents with project updates and a platform to voice their inquiries, comments, concerns, suggestions, and recommendations.

Upcoming Engagement Opportunities

The community engagement team is committed to maintaining an active presence in Scarborough and has scheduled more pop-up events for the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to stop by, get the latest project updates, and share their feedback with the team at the following locations:

  • Oriental Centre
    • Address: 4438 Sheppard Ave E, Scarborough, ON M1S 5V9
    • Date: July 12, 2024
    • Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Toronto Public Library – Agincourt Branch
    • Address: 155 Bonis Ave, Toronto, ON M1T 3W6
    • Date: July 26, 2024
    • Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Construction Updates: Progress Avenue Bridge Closure and Demolition

The Scarborough Subway Extension project is moving forward with significant infrastructure changes, including the demolition of the Progress Avenue bridge over McCowan Road to make way for the new Scarborough Centre Subway Station. The demolition work will be carried out in four stages, starting this Friday:

  1. Stage 1: July 12 – August 16, 2024
    • Permanent ramp closure: Progress Avenue ramp and Bushby Drive ramp
    • Demolition of Progress Avenue ramp and pedestrian underpass
  2. Stage 2: August 16, 2024
    • Permanent closure of Progress Avenue bridge
  3. Stage 3: August 30 – September 3, 2024 (24-hour work)
    • Demolition of Progress Avenue Bridge and closure of McCowan Road
  4. Stage 4: August 26 – September 18, 2024
    • Demolition of Bushby Drive ramp and Scarborough Rapid Transit (SRT) pedestrian bridge

Work Schedule:

  • Weekdays from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • August 30 – September 3, 2024: 24-hour work
