Emma Calvert Named Mississauga’s Director of Infrastructure Planning

Mississauga, ON — The City of Mississauga has announced the appointment of Emma Calvert as its new Director of Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Services, effective December 19, 2024.

In her new role, Calvert will oversee critical city services, including capital works, environmental services such as stormwater management, transportation infrastructure management, and transportation planning. Reporting directly to Sam Rogers, Commissioner of Transportation and Works, Calvert will lead the charge in advancing the city’s multi-modal transportation systems and stormwater network.

Calvert brings over a decade of experience with the City of Mississauga. Most recently, she served as Acting Director and Manager for the Development, Engineering, and Construction team. Her leadership was instrumental in managing the aftermath of last summer’s severe storms, which included spearheading financial relief programs and shaping future action plans. She also contributed significantly to waterfront developments, including the transformative Lakeview Village and Brightwater projects.

Before joining the City of Mississauga, Calvert held leadership positions in environmental engineering consulting firms in British Columbia and Ontario. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University and a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership from the Schulich School of Business. A member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Ontario Public Works Association, and the Municipal Engineers Association, Calvert also serves on the Development Engineering Committee.

Sam Rogers praised Calvert’s appointment, saying, “Her leadership experience combined with her insights from both the public and private sectors will be invaluable in advancing new initiatives and modernizing business processes. I am confident that Emma will play a key role in enhancing our transportation system and stormwater network, elevating the quality of life in our community.”

Calvert expressed enthusiasm about her new role, stating, “I look forward to working closely with the team, senior leaders, as well as Mayor and Council to deliver projects and services that will positively impact our community and infrastructure.”

This appointment comes as Mississauga continues to prioritize infrastructure improvements to meet the demands of its growing population and maintain its position as a leading city in the Greater Toronto Area.
