Emerging Musicians Shine at 2024 Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Program

Toronto – Canada’s music industry is abuzz with fresh talent as the winners of the 12th annual Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musicians Program were revealed. This year’s selection highlights the country’s vast musical landscape, with over 1,000 submissions received from every province and territory, showcasing diverse sounds and unique voices.

Chosen by a panel of industry experts for their originality, creativity, and talent, the five winners represent a dynamic mix of genres and backgrounds. In a historic first for the program, the Grand Prize was awarded to a musician performing a French-language song.

Gabriel Fredette Makes History

Gabriel Fredette, hailing from Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, captured the Grand Prize, making history as the first artist to win with a French-language song. His achievement highlights the growing recognition of bilingual talent in Canada’s music scene. Fredette’s victory earns him a $20,000 cash prize, exclusive performance slots at upcoming Canada’s Walk of Fame events, including the Celebration event on November 20 in Toronto, and private studio time at Metalworks Studios.

Local Talent Secures Second Prize

Toronto’s own Dallas was named the Second Prize winner, adding to an already impressive portfolio that includes over 37 million streams and 200,000 YouTube views. Along with a $10,000 cash award, Dallas gains valuable exposure and industry connections through the program.

Third Prize Winners Showcase Diversity

Three Third Prize winners round out the 2024 recipients, each bringing something unique to the table:

  • Jackie Art, a Black British-Canadian artist from Calgary, Alberta, captivates audiences with his blend of R&B, grime, and dance.
  • Mint Simon, a Montreal-based artist, merges 80s and 90s pop influences while celebrating queer identity.
  • Tiger Balme, an alternative indie band from Toronto, is known for their experimental sound that fuses traditional instruments like drums, guitar, and bass with the vibraphone, harp, and harmonized vocals.

Program Elevates Emerging Talent

Launched to help aspiring musicians advance their careers, the RBC Emerging Musician Program offers more than just financial support. Winners receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and performance slots that can open doors to broader industry connections. Since its inception, the program has served as a launchpad for numerous Canadian artists, and this year’s winners continue that tradition by bringing fresh sounds to the forefront.
