Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre reopens for 2026 winter season

Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre offers affordable winter recreation close to home

TORONTO — Winter recreation is returning to North York as the City of Toronto prepares to reopen the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre for the 2026 season, welcoming residents and visitors back to the slopes starting Wednesday, January 7.

The City confirmed the ski season is scheduled to run through Sunday, March 22, weather and slope conditions permitting. Located near public transit in the heart of North York, the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre continues to offer Torontonians an accessible and affordable way to enjoy skiing and snowboarding without leaving the city.

Lift ticket prices for the 2026 season range from $21.29 to $40.65, with programming designed for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. The facility includes beginner hills, full runs for more experienced riders and instructional programs for children and adults. Helmets are mandatory for all participants registered in lessons and are recommended for all patrons.

City officials say the centre remains an important part of Toronto’s winter recreation network, providing opportunities for residents to stay active during the colder months.

“It’s fantastic to have skiing and snowboarding right in the heart of the city,” said Mayor Olivia Chow. “It’s an exciting and healthy way to enjoy the winter outdoors, and I encourage everyone to come experience it and make the most of our city’s winter activities.”

Opening schedule and lessons

Beginning January 7, both the main hill and beginner hill will be open to the public. The south and race hills will remain temporarily closed as crews continue snowmaking operations. Ski and snowboard lessons are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 21.

The City is reminding residents to check the centre’s website before visiting, as daily operations depend on weather and snowfall conditions. Full details on hours of operation, lift tickets, passes and rental equipment are available through the City’s official Earl Bales webpage.

Councillor James Pasternak (York Centre) said the reopening is a welcome seasonal highlight for the community.

“The reopening of Earl Bales is a great boost for our community, offering residents an affordable way to stay active, enjoy winter outdoors and connect with neighbours,” Pasternak said. “This Centre has long been a gathering place for families.”

More winter recreation options

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the City of Toronto continues to offer a wide range of free winter recreation activities, including outdoor skating, tobogganing and trail use across the city. Residents can also register for remaining spots in City-run winter recreation programs.

Officials encourage residents to explore all winter offerings available through Toronto’s parks and recreation system as part of staying active and engaged during the season.
