Thriller Down to the Felt Brings High Stakes and Redemption to Home Audiences October 17

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Independent filmmaker Jon Osbeck’s gritty new thriller Down to the Felt goes all-in this fall as it makes its worldwide streaming debut on October 17, 2025, via Apple TV+. The film, produced under Osbeck’s Columbus-based banner Big Deal Pictures and distributed globally by Hawk Hill Pictures, blends crime, drama, and suspense in a story where the odds—and emotions—are stacked sky-high.

A Story of Second Chances and Dangerous Bets

Set and filmed in Columbus, Down to the Felt follows Paul, a chronic gambler whose life spirals out of control, and David, a haunted hitman with his own demons. Together, they strike a chilling deal: Paul’s death in two weeks’ time. But when Paul finally discovers something worth living for, fate deals an unexpected hand.

The film stars Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) as Paul and Michael Weston (Home Before Dark) as David, supported by Scottie Thompson (Murder at Yellowstone City), Jo-Ann Robinson, and Cullen Douglas.

“I’ve always been drawn to stories about redemption—about people who’ve taken hits in life but refuse to fold,” said Jon Osbeck, the film’s director, co-writer, and producer. “Down to the Felt came from a desire to explore what happens when you’re all-in emotionally, not just at the poker table.”

From Festival Screens to Global Audiences

After strong reactions on the film festival circuit, Down to the Felt now heads to home audiences worldwide.

“This release is the culmination of a lot of amazing work by an incredible team of artists, cast, crew, and community supporters in Columbus,” said Osbeck. “We’re excited to share it with an international audience.”

Jen Katzfey, President of Hawk Hill Pictures, praised the film’s emotional intensity and independent spirit:

Down to the Felt is exactly the kind of story that connects deeply with audiences—gritty, suspenseful, and emotionally powerful. The premise is unique, and the film is a nonstop action ride.”

Columbus Talent, Global Reach

Produced entirely in Ohio, the film showcases local talent and production teams, underscoring Columbus’s growing reputation as a hub for independent filmmaking. Hawk Hill Pictures’ involvement brings the story to international platforms, marking a milestone for Osbeck and his Big Deal Pictures label.
