David Muenkat Returns Home to Join Brampton Honey Badgers for 2025 Season
BRAMPTON – The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have officially signed Brampton native David Muenkat for the 2025 season, bringing the versatile forward back to his hometown franchise.
Muenkat, who has spent three seasons in the CEBL, played for the Winnipeg Sea Bears in 2024 and the Scarborough Shooting Stars in 2023 and 2022. With Winnipeg last season, he proved his defensive prowess and offensive versatility, earning a starting role and posting five double-digit scoring performances, including a season-high 16 points against Niagara on June 6.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome David back home, where he grew up,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice president of basketball operations. “David is extremely versatile on both ends of the floor, and more importantly, he takes pride on the defensive end, helping to shape and mold our identity moving forward.”
Muenkat’s return to Brampton follows a decorated stint with the Scarborough Shooting Stars, where he played a key role in their 2023 CEBL championship run. He averaged 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game that season, demonstrating his athleticism and improving three-point shooting, converting 38.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
“I am incredibly excited and grateful to be able to come back and play basketball professionally in my hometown,” said Muenkat. “It is a full circle moment and something that is nothing short of special. I’m thrilled for the opportunity to not only play in front of friends and family, but to also give back and impact my community first-hand. I am blessed beyond words and I look forward to competing and doing my part to help win some games for this organization.”
Beyond the CEBL, Muenkat has played two seasons with the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt in Germany, averaging 8.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists over 114 career games. This season, he ranks second on Frankfurt’s roster in total minutes played, rebounds per game (5.6), and steals (1.1). His offensive game has also flourished, shooting a career-best 41.3 percent from three-point range on 3.3 attempts per game across 19 contests.
Muenkat’s basketball journey began in collegiate play, where he competed for St. Francis Xavier University (U SPORTS), St. Francis College (NCAA), and Trinidad State Junior College (JUCO). He averaged 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds over 117 games, earning multiple accolades, including the U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year, U SPORTS All-Canadian Second Team, and All-AUS First Team honors. In his final collegiate season, he led St. Francis Xavier to an AUS Championship and a U SPORTS Championship Final appearance, where he delivered a career-high 31-point performance in a double-overtime thriller against Carleton University.
Muenkat becomes the third player confirmed for Brampton’s 2025 roster, joining reigning Canadian Player of the Year Koby McEwen and veteran forward Prince Oduro. His signing follows the re-signing of Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Sheldon Cassimy, reinforcing the team’s commitment to building a competitive core for the upcoming campaign.
The Honey Badgers will tip off their 2025 season on May 18 in Montréal before heading to Ottawa on May 21 to face the BlackJacks. The team will then return to Brampton’s CAA Centre to host the Scarborough Shooting Stars in their home opener.
