Toronto Designer Danielle Adams Reflects on a Breakout Year for Block Plan Studios

Founder of the award-winning studio celebrates global hospitality design success and tech-driven creativity from Toronto to the Caribbean

TORONTO — Toronto-based interior designer Danielle Adams, founder of Block Plan Studios, is capping off a whirlwind year of international design success with the launch of her latest hospitality project — PUNCH, a British Indian-inspired restaurant located inside the Le Germain Hotel Toronto.

The debut marks the seventh major opening for Adams and her boutique studio since July, joining a growing list of projects spanning Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean — from luxury hotels to stylish restaurants and vibrant nightlife venues.

“We’re in an exciting, buzzing time in the industry where technology and AI are becoming integral pieces,” said Adams in a statement released by Block Plan Studios. “But clients more than ever are looking for that really personal, human, emotive touch that can help them express and develop their visions and dreams. We lean into that, alongside futuristic design technologies, and it’s really set us apart.”

A Global Design Footprint with Toronto Roots

Before unveiling PUNCH — defined by its rich vintage wood tones and custom glass leaf chandeliers — Adams and her team completed several notable openings across North America, including:

  • Casamara, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant inside Washington’s SIXTY DC Hotel, featuring a 54-foot hand-tufted tapestry from Spain and checkerboard marble floors.

  • Reynolds, a moody cocktail lounge in the same hotel, blending old-world glamour with modern design.

  • Small Talk, a jazz bar on Toronto’s Ossington Avenue, where design meets whimsy — think burgundy ceilings with circular light cutouts, champagne vending machines, and a mosaic-tiled amber bar.

Adams’ portfolio also includes the Westin Harbour Castle and Westin Ottawa luxury suites, Maraa in Yorkville, and an upscale residential project in the Cayman Islands.

Expanding Beyond Hospitality

In a bold shift, Adams recently brought her design expertise into the health and wellness sector with the Pollin Fertility Clinic, designed for FH Health. The clinic features tranquil, cream-toned interiors, curved seating, sand-dollar lighting, and a layout meant to evoke calm and connection.

“Everyone who walks into the space now comments on how calm, welcoming, and intentional it feels,” said Melody Adhami, President of FH Health. “It’s a reflection of the care Danielle put into every detail.”

From Global Icons to Local Inspiration

Before launching Block Plan Studios in 2021, Adams worked with leading firms including BBB Architects, leading design renovations for major projects such as Madison Square Garden in New York, several Fairmont Hotels across Canada, and Toronto’s Royal York Library Bar.

Since founding her own firm, she has continued to build an impressive portfolio that includes Miss Likklemore’s, Toronto Beach Club, Patria, Chica, Paris Texas, Maxime’s, and projects in Miami, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.

“I love to travel and get inspired and develop projects abroad,” said Adams. “But I will always continue to seek creative work here at home in Toronto and across Canada. Home has been so good to me and to Block Plan.”
